Herefordshire to give HM The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh a right royal welcome

The Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Lady Darnley, can officially confirm that The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will be joining in the festivities on Hereford’s King George V playing field on Wednesday, July 11.

Herefordshire Diamond Day, which is expected to attract thousands of visitors, will celebrate all that is good and great about the county and will reflect Herefordshire life during the past 60 years and blend it with a taste of life in the 21st century and beyond.

As part of The Queen’s regional tour for the Diamond Jubilee, she will be visiting Hereford on 11th July – it can now be revealed she will be travelling through High Town and will spend some time at the Diamond Day event.

During her time in the city, The Queen will visit the new Cathedral Close and then enjoy the entertainment being laid on as part of Herefordshire Diamond Day on the King George V playing fields.

“I’m delighted to be able to confirm that she will be able to join us for our celebrations,” said Lady Darnley, the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire.

“We’re going to give The Queen a real taste of life in Herefordshire and I’m sure as many people as possible will join us in our Diamond Day celebrations,” added Lady Darnley.

A number of schools have already signed up to take part in the entertainment on the main stage at the King George V playing fields, and several businesses have joined the celebrations as sponsors of the event.

“We’re also receiving nominations for our Diamond Day awards will be given to local people who have been judged to have made noteworthy contributions to a range of sporting, business, voluntary and leisure activities in the county during the past 60 years,” added Lady Darnley.

“The team behind the plans are all very excited and enthusiastic about the event and I’m sure we’re in for a sparkling day of celebrations which will be complemented perfectly by the visit of The Queen.”
